Imphal, Aug 17:
Manipur Women’s Federation (MWF) has denounced the terrorizing of Meitei villagers in Koutruk area by Kuki militants when the people of the region are celebrating the 77th Independence Day of the country.
A statement by the MWF said that attack on the Meitei villages in Koutruk area by armed Kuki militants when the country is celebrating the 77th Independence Day showed that these armed Kuki people are not less than terrorists. The act is nothing but a challenge to the integrity of India, said general secretary of WMF T. Demona. She said that adequate action should be taken up against the Kuki terrorists for attempting to distort the unity of India and Manipur.
On the other hand, the women’s body questioned the silence of the governor of Manipur to the rape of a woman on May 3 at Churachandpur, while those women paraded naked by a mob were compensated Rs. 10 lakh each. The statement by the MWF said that the governor said not a single word when the Kuki militants rape a married woman; when a sleeping child was bombarded and killed; and when three villagers were shot and slaughtered when they were sleeping. The MWF asked if the governor has any hidden agenda for remaining silent to the said inhuman crimes.
