Nando Luwang, President AMUCO at a press meet held today at the Manipur Press Club, after the tripartite talk held at New Delhi on April 5 stated that both AMUCO and FOCS would not go against the wishes of the people of Manipur and highlighted the importance of April 5 meeting as the beginning of a roadmap for peace process and peaceful co-existence in Manipur.
BM Shah, Acting President FOCS also reiterated that there would be no compromise on the territorial integrity of Manipur.
The tripartite talk was held between the CSOs of Kuki-Zo and Meiteis and the MHA, organized by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), Government of India. Officials of the Government of India included AK Mishra, Advisor (NE), MHA, Rajesh Kamble, Joint Director (IB), MHA, Prashant Kumar Singh, Chief Secretary, Manipur and Ashutosh Kumar Sinha, ADGP, Manipur. Three representatives each from AMUCO and FOCS, five representatives from Kuki-Zo Council and two representatives of Zomi Council participated in the meeting.
Pheiroijam Nando Luwang, President All Manipur United Clubs Organisation (AMUCO), Dr. Dhanabir Laishram and Tongbram Ito Singh represented AMUCO while Bm. Yaima Shah (Acting President), Ksh Chandrakumar Singh, Jemson Khuman represented FOCS. Kuki-Zo Council was represented by Henlianthang Thanglet (Chairman), Thangzamang Hangshing, Ch. Ajang Khongsai, Thangkarn Lupheng, Ros Infimate and David Buhrii and Vum Suan (President) Pauneihai Haulai represented the Zomi Council.
Earlier, a meeting with AK Misra, Joint Director (IB) was held at the Secretariat Conference Hall, Manipur on March 12 with representatives of AMUCO, FOCS and COCOMI.
It may be mentioned that the Ministry of Home Affairs proposed 6 points to be discussed during this significant meeting. The points were appeal to their people to refrain from indulging in violence targeting members of the other community and urged the administration to take strong action against perpetrators of violence, appreciated steps taken by the Governor to facilitate deposit of arms and assured to extend all cooperation in this regard in future in order to instill a sense of security among the people, acknowledged the difficulties faced by the public on account of obstruction to free movement of traffic on national and state highways and urged the people to cooperate with the administration to normalize functioning of highways, decided to welcome any initiative by the government to facilitate return of internally displaced people to their respective places subject to logistics and security arrangements made by the government, appealed to the Governor to prioritise development activities in their areas which were neglected during the conflict, and agreed that all long term and contentious issues will be taken up with GoI (MHA) for resolution through dialogue and consultation with the communities.
