Meitei Leepun (ML) expressed its unwavering dedication to upholding the territorial and political integrity of India. The organization affirmed its commitment to fulfilling its duties in accordance with the constitution, in a press release.
The statement, signed by Chinglemba Wahengbam, Thoubu of the organization, referenced a ruling by the Supreme Court of India. During a hearing related to the ongoing turmoil in Manipur, the bench, led by Chief Justice DY Chandrachud and Justice PS Naramsimha, emphasized that the court should not be utilized as a platform for escalating violence or exacerbating issues in the state. The court reiterated that law and order, as well as security, are the responsibilities of the Union of India and Manipur.
ML’s press release urged all concerned parties not to misinterpret statements for the sake of vested propaganda. It highlighted Manipur’s unique identity, characterized by the peaceful coexistence of diverse communities and mutual respect for each other’s space, according to the release.
The organization expressed satisfaction and hope that a Kuki organization called KSO (Kuki Students’ Organization) has embraced the rule of law and encouraged other Kuki outfits to follow this positive example, emphasizing that maintaining order in the state is crucial. The press release earnestly requested the Government of India and Manipur to take immediate steps to restore normalcy, as prolonging the conflict may have disastrous consequences for the state.
