Tribute paid to Former CM Rishang Keishing on 6th Death Anniversary

Fitting tribute was paid today to the portrait of the former Chief Minister Rishang Keishing on 6th Death Anniversary. After paying floral tribute to the former Chief Minister, members of the Congress Legislature Party (CLP) expressed anger to the failure of the government in convening a normal session of the state legislative assembly.
Talking to reporters at the sideline of the 6th Death Anniversary observance of the former Chief Minister Rishnag Keishing at Congress Bhavan here in Imphal, President of the Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) K. Meghachandra said that the rights of the MLAs have been deprived by the present government as it could not convene a normal session of the Manipur Legislative Assembly. The MPCC president also indirectly term the governor of Manipur to have acted beyond her power. He said that the governor cannot decline the recommendation of the state cabinet decision. He expressed suspicion of some agenda as the governor had reportedly declined to convene the state legislative assembly on August 5 according to a recommendation by the state cabinet.
“What is this double engine government doing, are they aiming to murder the democracy”, Meghachandra said adding that it is the right of the government to convene a state assembly session, and if the governor deprived it the government should go to the supreme court and convene the normal session of the state assembly.
CLP leader Okram Ibobi, while giving his comment to queries by reporters said that the session being recommended by the government to the governor is not a normal session. He however said that it is early to comment on the constitutional validity of the session as the governor of Manipur has to respond.
“This session is not a normal session. Let us see what the governor mention”, Okram Ibo said.
