Taragi Cheisu has announced that a memorandum has been submitted to the Prime Minister for the urgent resolution of the ongoing conflict in Manipur.
In a press conference today, Khaidem Mani, President of Taragi Cheisu, stated that both the Governor and Chief Minister have acknowledged foreign involvement in the conflict, emphasizing the seriousness of the matter. Despite this acknowledgment, both the state and central governments have failed to take significant action to address the issue.
Khaidem Mani criticized the neutral stance adopted by security forces deployed by the central Home Department, stressing that they should actively support state forces. He suggested that if central forces do not assist, the Manipur government should convey concerns to the central government. The state government has recognized that central forces are merely observing the situation without taking appropriate action.
“The ball is being passed around, with the state blaming the center and claiming that all power has been withdrawn from the Chief Minister. However, there is no evidence to support the claim that he has been removed from the unified command,” he added.
Furthermore, Khaidem Mani has highlighted the sentiments of people in Jiribam, who feel abandoned by the state government and are considering aligning with Assam for protection. This is a serious matter, he added.
He also called for an end to population transfers as a response to violence, citing the displacement of eight thousand Meiteis from hill district of Churachandpur and four thousand Meiteis from Moreh. Instead, more security personnel should be deployed instead of resorting to the evacuation of people, Khaidem Mani added.
