The apex body Tangkhul community Tangkhul Mayar Ngala Long Tangents’ Youth Council, has expressed dismay and pain to learn that an open letter threatening Tangkhul Social Activist – Ashang Kasar, circulated on social media on January 16, 2024, by Kuki Zo volunteer.
“The purported letter unnecessarily dragged the name of the Tangkhul Naga Tribe into controversy and warned of dire consequences which shall befall on him if he is not reprimanded by his Tangkhul brothers. In a vibrant democratic society, constructive and healthy debates on electronic and social media on current issues is a part and parcel of a democratic ethos, where people express their opinions freely without any fear and inhibition”, a statement by Them A So Allanao, President Tangkhul Mayar Ngala Long Tangents’ Youth Council said.
The Tangkhul Youth Council strongly condemns such act, nor shall entertain any hate or threats directed towards any Tangkhul Naga individual, the statement said.
The TYC urged the Kuki Zo brethren to accept reality/identity and withdraw the widely transmitted letter which has gone viral on social media networking sites and refrain themselves whilst taking into consideration the need and necessity of having peaceful co-existence between the Nagas and the Kuki Zo-Mizo brethren.
