Swachhata Hi Seva at Marjing Polo Complex and Ideal College Akampat

A cleanliness drive and awareness program were held today at Marjing Polo Complex, Heingang, Imphal East District as part of the Swachhata Hi Seva (SHS) campaign. The Department of Tourism, Government of Manipur, in collaboration with Tourism Corporation of Manipur Ltd. organized the program under the theme of SHS-2023 ‘Garbage Free India’ with a focus on ‘For a Cleaner, Greener Manipur’.
Karam Bono Singh, Joint Secretary of MAHUD, emphasized the importance of citizens taking responsibility for keeping the state clean. He highlighted that it is not solely the government’s responsibility, but a collective effort from all sections of society is required to achieve a clean and garbage-free state. It is important to make all the sites where people use to gather or visit such as the tourist spots, heritage sites etc. neat and clean, he added.
Bono Singh also informed the volunteers/participants about the involvement of various government departments in the program’s success. He emphasized the government’s initiatives to create a garbage-free India and the significance of managing waste materials effectively.
W. Ibohal Singh, Director of Tourism, explained that the program aimed to maintain cleanliness at the Heingang Marjing Tourist Complex and urged people from the surrounding areas to take responsibility for keeping the site clean. He emphasized that it would create a positive impression on tourists.
Cleanliness drives were conducted in the surrounding areas of Marjing Polo Statue Complex, Ipudhou Marjing Temple Complex, and Marjing Polo Complex. Volunteers from Iputhou Marjing Khubam Kanba Lup, Heingang Awang Leikai Development Committee, as well as officials and staff from the Tourism department, actively participated in the cleanliness drive.
It is worth mentioning that the ‘Swachhata Hi Seva’ campaign, which will continue until October 2, 2023, is gaining momentum in the state, with various departments participating in the campaign.
Also, National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited(NHIDCL) regional Office Imphal organised Swachhata Hi Seva program at the Ideal College, Akampat. The event was attended by Khumanthem Diana Devi, IAS, DC Imphal East, DS Chaudhary, Executive Director, NHIDCL Regional Office Imphal, and officials. Also, relief materials were distributed to the inmates of Ideal College Relief Camp. Cleanliness drives were conducted on the premises of Ideal College, Akampat.
