Sugnu Peace Committee condemns CM Biren’s remark at assembly over Serou violence

Imphal, Mar 3:

Sugnu Peace Committee strongly condemns Chief Minister Biren Singh’s statement at the state assembly, asserting that the committee is responsible for the destruction of Serou.
Toijam Bimol, a worker who was rescued by the Peace Committee, speaking to the media today at Manipur Press Club clarifies that “the committee played a significant role in numerous rescue efforts during the peak of violence in May.” Bimol highlights that on May 9, the committee successfully rescued 99 Meitei workers, including 9 women and 1 child, who were stranded in Kongkhai, Churachandpur Districts. The MLA of Sugnu constituency was also actively involved in this rescue operation.
Bimol further adds that “MLA Ranjit, leading the Peace Committee, is the reason these workers were safely transported to Lalophai.” Therefore, Chief Minister Biren Singh’s assertion at state assembly that the Peace Committee is responsible for the destruction of Serou is deemed unfortunate. Bimol said that “without the Peace Committee’s intervention, these 99 individuals would have faced the risk of losing their lives.” It is crucial to note that the Peace Committee did not embolden Kuki-Zo militants to attack the people of Sugnu and Serou. Their actions were solely focused on rescue efforts and ensuring the safety of the local population during times of heightened violence.
