Student bodies condemn Jiri -Tamenglong boundary land dispute

The four student bodies of Jiribam district condemned the confrontation between two groups over the Jiribam – Tamenglong boundary land dispute.
The student bodies of Jiribam District – MSF, DESAM, KSA, and another major student groups opposed the claimed Jiribam area by fixing sign boards.
The students’ said that a group of people claimed that the Nunkhal and Leisabithol villages of Jiribam District as a Tamenglong district area by fixing a signboard as a Khedargar Gaidunlong village, Tamenglong District, Tousem Sub Division.
Speaking with media persons in a press conference, representing the student bodies L. Bilaks Meetei, President, DESAM Jiribam District Council said that the present villagers of Nunkhal and Leisabithol enrolled their voters at Jiribam District and franchise their votes for a long time as well as the land document which the villagers hold is also issued under the settlement department of Jiribam District.
However, amidst the boundary dispute some people took up various activities, and claiming the land of Jiribam District as a Tamenglong District might disrupt the peace and harmony existing between the people of various communities, he added.
The student bodies sought the special attention of the government on the boundary dispute of Jiribam- Tamenglong District, warning of serious agitation if attempts are made to divide Manipur’s unity.
