State PWD Fails to take action against the defaulting contractors who had failed to return the machineries

The State Public Works Department, Mechanical Division- I, failed to take action against the contractors who failed to return the machineries hired from the department.
It may be mentioned that machineries valued at Rs 2.61 crore were not returned by the contractors.
Khumanthem Dhanachandra, an RTI activist sought information to the SPIO, Public Works Department to provide the steps taken up public works department to recover the machineries from the defaulting contractors, hiring charges to be paid by the contractor along with the full name and full addresses of the defaulting contractors who had not return the hired machines.
The Executive Engineer, Mechanical Division-I, PWD Manipur in his reply stated that the department had submitted a report to the account committee of the Manipur Legislative Assembly regarding the matter and the necessary steps will be taken up by the Public Works Department against the intenders after receiving action taken reports from the account committee of the Manipur Legislative Assembly.
Regarding the name and address of the defaulting contractors, the Public Works Department, Mechanical Division- I provide only the name of the defaulting contractors without the addresses.
Speaking to the Imphal Times, Dhanachandra said “Reasons of not providing the addresses of these contractors seem to have something behind the screen between the department and contractors.”
