State disability platform raises demands in connection to LS polls

The State Platform for Disabled People Organization, Manipur (SPDPO), urges political parties and candidates to prioritize and address the issues of the disabled community in the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections. Emphasizing the need for equal treatment, disability rights, and prioritizing the agenda of persons with disabilities.
In response, the National Centre for Promotion of Employment for Disabled People (NCPEDP) in collaboration with the National Disability Network (NDN) formulated and launched the “Manifesto For and By Citizens with Disabilities.” This manifesto, representing the culmination of extensive national and regional consultations, encapsulates the pressing concerns and demands of the disabled community across India.
The Disability Manifesto emphasizes the critical need for political parties to prioritize the mainstreaming of people with disabilities in their 5-year action plans for the upcoming election. It addresses a wide spectrum of issues, including budgetary allocation, health insurance, accessibility, social security, socio-political inclusion, economic participation, climate change, gender equality, sports, and education.
Key demands of the Manifesto include budgetary allocation of 5% for persons with disabilities, promotion of affordable health insurance, making spaces accessible by 2026, increasing social security pension, amending Article 15 for inclusion, filling backlog vacancies by 2027, forming a Climate Change Mission, establishing gender equality schemes, building sports infrastructure, and enhancing education enrollment.
