One vendor lady died, ten others including a 13 years old minor girl sustained serious injuries after a speeding car ran over a group of Keithel ladies at Wangjing in Thoubal district yesterday evening. The group of women were reportedly preparing for the mass protest organised at various Keithel (Market) in Valley district including Kwairambandh Keithel of Imphal.
The accident happened at around 8 pm yesterday evening at NH – 102 in front of Wangjing Keithel in Thoubal district under Thoubal Police Station, when the group of ladies were preparing to return home after organising for the mass protest scheduled to stage today.
CCTV footage showed a speeding Maruti Suzuki xx4 vehicle bearing registration No. MN05 A5479 hit a parked Eco van vehicle bearing registration Number MN 01 AS 1338, and ran over a lady who was standing at the side of the Van. The lady has been identified as Ningombam Ronibala @ Ichan (41) of Singjamei Waikhom Leikai in Imphal West. She died on the spot, report said.
Those injured were rushed to the Thoubal District Hospital and after giving first aids, they were referred to RIMS Hospital.
The report added that 3 persons who came in the Maruti Car were also reported injured. The driver of the car has also been undergoing treatment at RIMS hospital in critical condition.
Those injured in the accident are identified as Loubuktongbam Inaobi (46) of Govindagram, Tongbram Kiranbala (42) of Keishamthong, Kiran Devi (46) of Nagamapal, Laishram Santi Devi of Wangjing, Th. Kiranbala (45) of Bamolkampu and her 13 years old Prithibisembi, Driver of the Eco Van Loubuktongbam Bobin Sharma (44) of Govindagram. Identity of the 3 injured who came in the Maruti.
