Imphal, Jan 17:

Ashang Kasar, a prominent social worker from Manipur’s Tangkhul community, has expressed serious concerns about a viral post on a social networking site in which Kuki Zo volunteers threaten him and his colleague, accusing them of siding with the Meitei community.
Speaking to media persons at the Manipur Press Club in Imphal, Ashang Kasar, convenor of the Forum for Restoration of Peace in Manipur, stated that his organization, formed by like-minded individuals, has been working towards restoring peace and harmony in the region. “We have never sided with any particular community, and our organization’s goal is to bring peace to the region,” Ashang Kasar said. He added that threatening him and his Tangkhul community without any valid reasons may lead to trouble for the Kuki Zo people.
“The leaders of the Kuki-Zo community should understand that there are many Kuki villages in Tangkhul-dominated areas, and threatening a member of a particular community, Tangkhul, who is working towards peace restoration in the region, will have severe consequences,” Ashang Kasar warned.
Ashang Kasar is known for his organizational skills as well as his criticism of social wrongs and government policies.
“We have never sided with any particular community, whether it be Meitei or Kuki Zo. Our aim has always been to bring peace and harmony to the state, which has been severely affected by violence since May 3, 2023,” the social worker from the Tangkhul community explained. He emphasized that it is everyone’s right to appeal to all people to live peacefully and harmoniously.
“By specifically threatening me and the Tangkhul community, the so-called Kuki Zo volunteers are inviting further trouble,” Ashang Kasar cautioned the leaders of the Kuki Zo community to control their volunteers.
