Sinking of Kongba Laishram Leikai road not due to the cleaning of the river bed – KRDYC

Kongba River Development Youth Committee (KRDYC) today said that the sinking of the portion of newly constructed Kongba Laishram Leikai road was not due to the cleaning of the river bed but due to the to the construction of 60 ft stretch retaining wall without proper requisite assessment. Reacting to the statement given by N. Babuchan, Chief Engineer, PMGSY, members of KRDYC said that cleaning of the river bed has nothing to do with the sinking of the road stretch. Lamenting the comment, President, KRDYC, Athokpam Dhanachandra today urged for an enquiry by national vigilance commission regarding the incident if the chief engineer fails to clarify the matter before April 20. Speaking to media persons at Manipur Press Club today Dhanachandra added that the present condition of the Kongba Laishram Leikai road is due to the hurried construction of the 60 ft stretch retaining wall which started in the early December and finished within a week’s time without giving time for compaction. Black topping of the road was completed on March 3 and the low-lying condition of the road started from March 15. He said the cleansing of the Kongba riverbed was done on 6th April under the initiative of KRDYC. Concealing their misapprehension work of both the department and the contractor, Dhanachandra said it is shameful that the chief engineer is blaming it to KRDYC.
