Security Forces foils smuggling attempt in Manipur-Myanmar border

Security forces foiled a major smuggling attempt in Manipur’s Churachanpur district bordering Myanmar when 2,424 bottles of Myanmar-origin Jockey Gold liquor and 885 Bottles of brand Juntus beer loaded in a mini truck were seized.
Two alleged smugglers along with the confiscated items were apprehended at a check post in Khuga, Churachandpur on Sunday, a defense wing statement said on Monday.
In another success, security forces launched a search operation in the general area of Nagaljang, Songdoi under the Singhhat police station of Churachandpur District and recovered 1728 bottles of Myanmar-origin Jockey Gold liquor.
The apprehended smugglers along with the seized items and vehicles were handed over to the concerned Police stations for further legal proceedings, the statement added.
Meanwhile, a 33-year-old Myanmar national was arrested forpossessing heroin worth Rs.
2 crore in Champhai district in Mizoram near the Myanmar border, anofficial of Assam Rifles said on
Friday.
Acting on specific information, personnel of Assam Rifles and officials of stateexcise and narcotics department carried out a joint operation at Tlangsam area in east Mizoram’s Champhai district
on Friday, she said.
During the joint operation295.2 grams of heroin was recovered from the possession of the
accused, she said.
The official said that boththe accused and the seizedcontraband worth Rs. 2 crorewere handed over to the excise and narcotics department in Champhai for further legal proceedings on the same day.
She said that the paramilitaryforce has continued their effortsagainst illegal smuggling and
has also doubled its efforts tonab the kingpins of the smuggling of contraband items inMizoram.
