Bishnupur, May 24:

The proscribed group, the Revolutionary People’s Front (RPF), has taken punitive action against an alleged rapist, shooting him in the leg as a form of punishment. The 61-year-old man, accused of raping a 26-year-old mentally unsound woman, was paraded before media persons at an undisclosed location in Bishnupur district before the punishment was carried out.
According to the RPF Central Bureau Division Secretary, who addressed the media prior to the shooting, the accused was apprehended following a thorough investigation by the group. The RPF official detailed that the man, who hails from a village under the jurisdiction of Kumbi Police Station, committed the alleged crime, prompting the RPF to intervene.
In addition to the physical punishment, the RPF has imposed further sanctions on the accused. He is required to pay Rs. 5 lakh to the victim’s family within ten days. Furthermore, he has been ordered to leave his village and is banned from returning for a period of five years.
