MoS for External Affairs and Education RK Ranjan inaugurated Rani Gaidinliu Girls Hostel of Swami Vivekanand Subharti University at Merut on Monday
Speaking on the occasion, RK Ranjan said that Rani Gaidinliu was a Naga spiritual and political leader of our Manipur who led a revolt against British rule in India. She is a great inspiration for young girls of our country as she joined the fight against the British at the age of 13, was arrested in 1932 at the age of 16 and thereafter, sentenced to life imprisonment by the British rulers. She was released from jail after 15 years in 1947 when our country became Independent and thereafter continued to work for the upliftment of the people till she died in 1993. Thus, Rani Gaidinliu will continue to inspire future generations of youth of our country.
He said that Swami Vivekanand Subharti University is run by MTV BRC Trust which is inspired by the ideals and philosophy of great spiritual masters of India and the World like Gautam Buddha & Swami Vivekanand and hence, aiming to render social service and is committed to provide medical care and vocational training to everyone without any discretion of caste, creed, religion or culture; by establishing Schools, Colleges, Hospitals, Ashrams and Social Service Centres.
“It is quite natural that the University authorities are inspired by valour of Gaidinliu Pamei and are rightly naming the new girls’ hostel as Rani Gaidinliu Girls Hostel”, the MoS for Education said.
He said that the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 is our first education policy of the 21st century and aims to address the many growing developmental imperatives of our country. This Policy proposes to create a new system that is aligned with the aspirational goals of 21st century educationwhile building upon India’s traditions and value systems.
The NEP 2020 aims to bring about a transformative change in the education system, including higher education. It envisions a more holistic, flexible, and skill-oriented education system that caters to the diverse needs of students and prepares them for the challenges of the 21st century, the Minister added.
