RIMS observed World Alzheimer’s Day

Regional Institute of Medical Sciences, Imphal observed “WORLD ALZHEIMER’S DAY” with the theme “Never Too Early, Never Too Late” today at the OPD Block, Department of Psychiatry, RIMS.
During the event, Dr. S. Gojendra Singh, Head of the Department of Psychiatry, RIMS, Imphal, and Dr. RK Lenin, Professor in the Department of Psychiatry, RIMS, Imphal, emphasized the importance of raising awareness about the misconceptions surrounding Dementia and Alzheimer’s. They also aimed to provide support and encouragement to the families of individuals affected by Alzheimer’s in order to help them cope with and combat the disease.
It is crucial to note that Alzheimer’s is a severe neurological condition characterized by memory loss and confusion. If not diagnosed and managed promptly, it can significantly impair cognitive functions such as learning, thinking, reasoning, remembering, problem-solving, decision-making, and attention. Consequently, this can greatly impact an individual’s ability to perform daily activities and regulate their emotions. This debilitating ailment not only affects the patients themselves but also takes a toll on their families and friends.
The program was attended by Dr. S. Gojendra Singh, Head of the Department of Psychiatry, Dr. R. . Lenin Singh, Professor in the Department of Psychiatry, Dr. Mona Nongmeikapam, Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychiatry, as well as faculty members, staff, students, and caregivers of the patients.
