A section of the retaining wall on the eastern side of the Nambul River behind Kakhulong in Paona Bazar partially collapsed this morning. Despite a slight drop in water levels by about half a foot, the river remains above danger points, causing concern among local residents.
Residents of Kakhulong have called for immediate assistance from government authorities to address the damage and prevent further incidents. Responding to the urgency, MLA RK Imo Singh of Sagolband Assembly Constituency swiftly visited the affected site to assess the damage.
RK Imo was accompanied by engineers from the Public Works Department (PWD), the Additional Chief Engineer (ACE) and Superintending Engineer (SE) from the Water Resources Department, and officials from the Environment Department. During the visit, Imo examined the damaged retaining wall and discussed the impact of the recent floods and overflowing riverbanks.
MLA Imo assured the residents that a comprehensive program for constructing a new drainage system throughout Paona Keithel has already been included under central government funding. He indicated that the project, once initiated, is expected to be completed within a year, aiming to prevent future flooding and improve the area’s infrastructure.
