Rescue operation will continue for 3 more days: Minister Awangbow Newmai

Water Resource and Relief & Disaster Management Minister Shri Awangbow Newmai said that the rescue operation of the victims of Marangching (Makhaum) Landslide will continue for three more days.
The Minister reiterated that the rescue operation will continue till all the victims are found. He informed that three (3) more dead bodies are found, and the death toll mounts to 53 from the landslide that struck a railway construction site at Tupul in Noney district.
Considering the hardships faced by the officials and volunteers who had been carrying out the rescue and search operation for 12 days continuously, Awangbow said that a review meeting will be held to discuss for providing additional force in the rescue team. The minister also requested the Army, NDRF, SDRF and volunteers for full cooperation unless the missing victims are found.
It may be mentioned that Minister Awangbow continuously supervised the ground zero of the landslide-affected areas.
Over 880 personnel, including those of the National Disaster Response Force, the State Disaster Response Force, the police, the Assam Rifles and local volunteers, have been deployed in the search operation.
Over 43 excavators have been used to clear the debris which blocked the Ijei river, forming dam-like storage and threatening the people living nearby.
