Imphal, Sept 10:

Meira Paibis from various parts of Imphal gathered at the residence of Adhikarimayum Sharda, the President of BJP Manipur Pradesh, located in Bamon Leikai. The Meira Paibis, who were not affiliated with any specific organization, expressed their dissatisfaction with the Assam Rifles’ biased support of the Kuki militants and the lack of law and order in the hill areas.
During a conversation with a reporter of Imphal Times, the Meira Paibis expressed their distress over the government’s response to protests and rallies in the valley, where tear gas and mock bombs were used while remaining silent and inactive in the hill areas. They also criticized the Assam Rifles for preventing an ambulance from entering during a recent conflict in Pallel. Witnessing and hearing about these incidents, the Meira Paibis felt compelled to take action and without any prior planning, Meira Paibis from various parts of the valley gathered to surround Adhikarimayum Sharda’s residence.
The Meira Paibis presented their demands to Sharda, urging her not to remain silent during this crucial time, and requested a meeting with the Chief Minister of the state. A delegation of approximately 10 Meira Paibis subsequently met with the Chief Minister, who listened to their demands and assured them that steps were being taken to replace the Assam Rifles with another force, such as the BSF. The Meira Paibis demanded that the Assam Rifles be removed by the end of September. However, if the Assam Rifles are not withdrawn within this specified timeframe, the Meira Paibis plan to initiate various forms of protests and demonstrations after consulting with their members.
