IT News
Imphal, May 27:

The Assam Rifles has issued a formal rebuttal to Imphal Times Editorial titled “A Crisis of Authority and Accountability in Manipur” published on May 26, 2024 issue. The editorial claimed that media personnel were delayed by Assam Rifles for an hour despite the request from SP Kakching and were only allowed to proceed after notification to the 28 Sector Commander. It also alleged that the 37 Assam Rifles had allowed the Kukis to construct a bridge without any intervention, despite existing orders.
In a letter addressed to the Editor of the Imphal Times, the Public Relations Officer of the Assam Rifles clarified the situation. According to the rebuttal, on May 25, 2024, two media personnel arrived to cover an incident at Molnom. They were asked to verify their identities and were permitted to proceed after their identities were confirmed.
The Assam Rifles emphasized that the construction of the bridge at Molnom is a law and order issue under the jurisdiction of the civil administration. The Assam Rifles reiterated its role as a responsible and neutral force, committed to executing its mandate without bias.
The Assam Rifles urged the media to avoid publishing incorrect news that could potentially disturb the law and order situation in the region. The rebuttal was issued by Lieutenant Colonel, Staff Officer (Public Relations & Media) at the Headquarters Inspector General Assam Rifles (South).
