Imphal, Aug 3:

The proposed site for burying the dead bodies of the Kuki community at Haolai Khopi village in Kangvai Sub-Division in Churachandpur district happened to be a state government land. However, the government machineries still could not evict the encroacher even after the Deputy Commissioner of Churachandpur district had ordered for eviction of the encroacher.
“Chief of the Haolai Khopi village, Kamsei is encroaching on state land / Sericulture farm at Haolai Khopi, Kanvai Sub-Division by way of construction of road at the centre of the State land /Farm”, Deputy Commissioner of Churanchandpur district Pawan Yadav stated in an eviction notice dated May 24, 2023.
Deputy Director (Sericulture) Churahcandpur district has reported about this encroaching of government land to the district authority. The DC of Churachandpur district has directed the Sub-divisional Officer, Kangvai to carry out eviction by engaging adequate police force in case of encroacher does not comply with the aforesaid notice. However, even after nearly three months from the date of the notification, the SDO Kangvai has failed to comply with the order of the Deputy Commissioner of Churachandpur district.
Following the failure of the state government machineries to comply with the order of the superior officials, fresh tension erupted in the state after the Kuki CSO ITLF announced for burying of the dead bodies at the site. Large number of Kuki-Zo people had earlier cleaned the site preparing for burying of the dead bodies at the conflicting site.
