In a twisted tale, a husband who has been driven out from locality on charge of killing his own wife, found her cremated wife living a new life with a new partner.
Konthoujam Naobi Devi (age about 19 years), daughter of Konthoujam Ongbi Kunjarani Devi of Tentha Marongband in Thoubal district was reported missing by her husband, Laishram Chaoba at Thoubal police station on August 22, 2011. His wife reportedly went missing since August 18, 2011. About three days later a dead body of a girl of her age was found floated at Ithai Barrage and family and relatives of Konthoujam Naobi claimed the dead body to be of her. The family members and relatives then charged the husband of Naobi and his father-in-law Laishram Ibungo, who stayed at the same locality, of murdering their daughter and forcibly cremated in their courtyard. Naobi’s husband Laishram Chaoba however pleaded them not to cremate the dead body as he protested the dead body as not of his wife. A hurriedly formed JAC instead of listening to his plead dismantled and burnt his house and drive both the father and son out of the locality. Later, the husband along with his father was handed over to police and police proceeded a legal action against them. Both the father and the son who were charged of murdering the lady were however released on bail. Both spend a miserable life taking refuge at one of their relative’s at Samaran in Thoubal district.
Surprisingly the cremated wife, Konthoujam Naobi Devi, was found living a new life with another partner at Nongdam Tangkhul Village in Ukhrul district. Even more surprising thing is that mother of Naobi, Konthoujam Ongbi Kunjarani Devi, who had charged Laishram Chaoba of killing her daughter was found staying together with her supposedly murdered daughter, who now has a baby child of nearly 3 months old. She was living with a new partner identified as Tekcham Sanahal (30) son of Inaobi of Keibi Heikak Mapal in Thoubal district.
Laishram Chaoba said he found his cremated wife while tracing the whereabouts of his mother-in-law Kunjarani Devi. As according to him, he never believed his wife to be dead and since the time he was released on bail he started searching for a clue to find the whereabouts of his wife. As Kunjarani used to be out of station most of the time, he smelt some suspicion on her and started following her with some of his friend. He found his ex-wife Naobi staying at a rented room of Nongdam Baptish Church along with her new partner and mother.
It is also found out that Tekcham Sanahal work as Mohori of a sand quarry at Nongdam Tangkhul Village and Naobi also work at the quarry some times.
As according to Sanahal, he found Naobi at Namphalong Market at Moreh in 2013 when he served as a driver of a passenger vehicle along Imphal-Moreh route. After listening to her story about the various form of harassment given to her by her husband and family members, he took her with him and since then they have been staying at the rented room at Nongdam Baptist Church.
A team of Khunai Kanba Apunba Meira Paibi Lup which had rushed the spot on getting the information handed over Naobi along with her new partner and mother-in-law to Thoubal Police. Paster of Nongdam Baptist Church also assisted the team in handing over them to the police.
Now, Laishram Chaoba question about the identity of the lady who was forcibly cremated at his home. He also asked about the price of the mob justice at which he had to lost his house and property.
