PPAM urges MLAs to form Government within a week, threatens signature campaign

Imphal, April 15:

The People’s Progressive Alliance, Manipur (PPAM) has issued a strong call to the 59 elected MLAs of the state to take immediate steps towards forming a government within a week. Addressing a press conference, PPAM member Th. Sujata stated that if no progress is made, the alliance will launch a signature campaign to determine which MLAs are willing to take responsibility for forming the government and which are not.
“The BJP, having the majority, cannot shirk its responsibility. They cannot wait indefinitely for directions from the Centre,” Sujata asserted, criticizing the delay in government formation.
This statement comes in the wake of Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s recent remarks in the Rajya Sabha. Shah clarified that the imposition of President’s Rule (PR) in Manipur was not a decision made solely by the Centre, but a consequence of the failure of the state’s elected MLAs to stake claim and form a government. PPAM has strongly reacted to this, saying that the Centre’s attempt to shift the blame is a clear indication of political game play.
“The people have given their mandate. The elected representatives should act without waiting for the Centre’s approval. The Centre has already failed Manipur in many ways,” Sujata added.
The alliance also criticized the Centre’s handling of law and order in the state, pointing to the continued disturbances on National Highway 2 between Sekmai and Kangpokpi. “If the Centre cannot even ensure peace in such a short stretch, why should we depend on it to guide state-level governance?” Sujata questioned.
Referring to the ongoing violence and instability, Sujata also called for accountability in tracking down key figures like Mukesh, accusing authorities of playing a political drama instead of protecting the people. “We are tired of the show. Our representatives must protect us at any cost,” she concluded.
