District Magistrate of all valley districts in the state of Manipur has ordered the prohibition of organising ‘Thabal Chongba’ (the traditional Moon Light Dance) other than during Yaoshang Festival and Cheiraoba. Following the orders, district police had taken down preparations for Thabal Chiongba at various places in the districts.
District Magistrates of Imphal West, Imphal East, Thoubal, Kakching, and Bishnupur have issued the prohibition order of Thabal Chongba today, April 3, 2023.
“All permissions already issued, if any, for organising ‘Thabal Chongba’ in the district except for those falling on Cheiraoba stands cancelled”, the orders by DMs of all districts mentioned said. The order added that all pending applications seeking permission for Thabal Chongba other than those falling on Cheiraoba Day stand rejected and disposed of.
The DMs orders also stated that the district administration offices have received a large number of application for organising Thabal Chongba at various localities of each district.
An unofficial source said that Thabal Chongba is being organised at various localities numbering over 40 places in valley districts.
Following the orders, the district police had taken down preparation for organising Thabal Chongba at Imphal West, Imphal East, Thoubal, Kakching, and Bishnupur districts.
