A team of Imphal West Police Commando including women personnel led by K. Meghachandra, Imphal West, Additional SP (Ops) raided Namthilok area of North AOC and conducted search operation inbetween Northern gate of Kangla to Minuthong at around 10 am today. During the raid the police team picked up several illegal drug substance users, alcoholic abusers and sex workers for further verification. 5 IRB personnel were also picked up for allegedly engaging in the illegal activities.Speaking to media persons, K. Meghachandra, Imphal West, Additional SP (Ops) said the raid took place in preparation of the upcoming Sangai festival to sensitize the area of North AOC. He said the motive of such drive is to stop such illegal activities and sensitize the whole area. He further appealed to all the NGOs, civil societies and public to coordinate the police in conducting such raids. Meghachandra further said that such activities will consistently continue as there is pressure from the government.Police source said that a total of 157 persons including illegal drug substance users, alcoholic abusers and sex workers including the 5 IRB personnel were picked up for further verification.
