NK Sanajaoba Memorial Trust mourns the passing of Aheibam Birendra Singh

The NK Sanajaoba Memorial Trust expressed profound sorrow over the demise of Aheibam Birendra Singh, affectionately known as Tamo Biren Lamba, a stalwart figure in the Manipuri community. The trustee members convened for a condolence meeting at Lamyanba Shanglen, Palace compound in Imphal East district, to honour his memory.
During the gathering, the trustee members fondly remembered Tamo Biren Lamba’s invaluable contributions to the Pan Manipuri movement, both as a collective identity and an ideology. They acknowledged the significant void left by his absence, emphasizing that his legacy would endure as an integral part of the Trust.
In an official statement, the NK Sanajaoba Memorial Trust lamented the loss of Tamo Biren Lamba, who breathed his last on May 10, 2024, following an extended illness. Born on October 1, 1947, in Chingamakha Heirangoithong Aheibam Leikai, Imphal, Aheibam Birendra Singh was a founding member of the Pan Manipuri Youth League (PANMYL), established in 1968 at Gauhati University. His tireless efforts towards fostering a unified Manipuri identity reverberate to this day.
Aheibam Birendra Singh’s illustrious career included teaching English Literature at Oriental College, Imphal, and holding esteemed positions such as Director of Arts and Culture for the Government of Manipur, Chairman of the Manipur Film Development Corporation, and Chairman of the North East Zone Cultural Centre (NEZCC), Dimapur, under the Government of India.
Meanwhile, the Manipuri Chanura Leishem Marup (Macha Leima) also extended their heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family of late Aheibam Birendra Singh. Senior members and executives of Macha Leima gathered at their office premises in the Palace Compound for a condolence meeting at 8 am. A poignant two-minute silence was observed as a token of respect for the departed soul.
