Nine dead, many injured in violence at Aigejang

At least 9 (nine) people were killed and over 10 civilians injured in a fresh attack by suspected militants at Aigejang village near Khamenlok in the adjoining area between Imphal East and Kangpokpi district.
Report said that suspected Kuki militants armed with sophisticated weapons surrounded some villagers defending the Meitei villages in the adjoining area of Imphal East and Kangpokpi district. The militants allegedly butchered the villagers defending the Meitei village and slaughtered them. They also allegedly fired indiscriminately toward the villagers after overpowering them. The villagers attack the villagers at around 1 am.
Reporters who visited the site said that some of the villagers managed to escape from the militants. According to them, two dead bodies were lying at the site where the Kuki militants overpowered them. Three villagers were also taken by the armed Kuki militants as per the villagers who escaped from the clutches of the Kuki militants.
The dead bodies were deposited at JINMS morgue. The dead bodies of 7 have been handed over to their families. Those injured were admitted at Raj Medicity, North AOC, Imphal.
On Monday night nine people were injured in a gunfight in the Khamenlok area in exchange of fire between militants and village volunteers.
Following the fresh violence, the district authorities of Imphal West and Imphal East have cut short the curfew relaxation hours from the usual 5 am to 6 pm in the two districts to 5 am to 9 am.
