Imphal, July 4:

The Moidangpok Khullen Women’s Society (NISHABAND), Meira Paibi, has submitted a memorandum to President Droupadi Murmu, through the Governor of Manipur, demanding immediate measures to address critical issues such as National Register of Citizens (NRC), Suspension of Operation (SoO), de-recognition of “Any Kuki Tribes” in the ST list and arrests of narco-terrorists.
The society emphasizes the need to update the National Register of Citizens (NRC) to identify and deport illegal immigrants who have unlawfully acquired Indian citizenship and settled in Manipur. They argue that this step is crucial to maintaining the integrity of citizenship records.
Furthermore, the memorandum calls for the immediate abrogation of the Suspension of Operation (SOO) agreement between the Government of India and Kuki militant groups. The society claims that this agreement, while initially well-intentioned, undermines the rule of law and compromises national security by legitimizing groups they consider to be representing illegal immigrants.
The society also urges the government to reconsider and revoke the recognition of “Any Kuki Tribes” as Scheduled Tribes (ST). They argue that this designation should be reserved for genuine tribal communities to prevent the misappropriation of benefits meant for these groups.
Additionally, the memorandum demands an immediate end to the harassment and arrest of village volunteers who have been defending civilians against attacks by what the society describes as “Kuki narco-terrorists.” They argue that these volunteers are acting in defense of their communities and should not be penalized.
“We believe these measures are crucial for restoring peace and stability in Manipur and trust in your leadership to take prompt action,” the memorandum concludes.
