Meitei Churches Advocacy for Peace and Development (MCAPDAM) condemns the erection of a cross at Thangjing Hills, urging its immediate removal, while also blaming Kukis for the crisis leading to the burning of over 250 Meitei churches during the recent violence.
In a press conference held today in Imphal, Hijam Brojen, spokesperson of the Meitei Churches Advocacy for Peace and Development (MCAPDAM), vehemently condemned the recent erection of a cross at Thangjing Hills. Brojen questioned the motives behind such anti-Christian activities, stating that they are not in line with the teachings of Christianity as outlined in the Bible.
Thangjing Hill holds significant historical and religious importance for the Meitei community, making the installation of the cross a source of deep concern for the organization. MCAPDAM urged the authorities to swiftly intervene and remove the cross, describing the act as a form of terrorism targeting the religious sentiments of the Meitei people.
Expressing disappointment in the lack of action from law enforcement agencies, Brojen emphasized the humiliation faced by the entire state due to such incidents. He urged those responsible to consider the well-being of Manipur, emphasizing that their actions should not undermine the unity and integrity of the state.
Brojen also addressed the burning of over 250 Meitei churches, squarely attributing the blame to the Kuki community. He cited the anti-Scheduled Tribe demand solidarity march in May as the starting point of the violence, where Kuki mobs reportedly attacked Meitei individuals, leading to widespread destruction of churches.
In closing, Brojen offered prayers for a better and more peaceful Manipur, underscoring the need for unity and harmony among all communities in the state.
