Mega Manipur School today embarked on a new journey, fighting Climate Change. The school in association with the Directorate of Environment and Climate change today started project “waste to wealth” to inculcate a sense of climate friendly behavior amongst the school children.
Director of the Environment and Climate Change, Govt. of Manipur Dr. T, Brajakumar Singh kick started the project donating two Bottle Bank to the students of the school.
In a program organized at the school at the Mega Manipur School Complex today, Dr T, Brajakumar emphasized the need for students to begin the fight for Climate right from the kitchen. While appreciating the school for making students aware of the problem plastic pose to the environment, he urged the students to try to reduce, reuse and recycle plastic as much as possible.
The program was also attended by Th. Joykumar Singh, MD, Thangjam Agro Industries Pvt. Ltd who spoke on what industries like Likla, which use plastic is doing it part to tackled the plastic problem issue. While stating that we cannot do without plastic as it has become very convenient for us, he emphasis responsible disposal of plastic so that we have a win-win situation where we save our planet yet we use plastic responsibly.
Another speaker S. Itombi of SJ Plastics, who is into the business of recycling plastic, urged the students play a part in reusing and recycling plastics. He said he and his firm was buying used plastics so that it can be reused after recycling. This, he said will help prevent plastic pollution to a extent.
The idea of waste to wealth is not a new one although now being adopted in Mega Manipur School is new, Secretary of Mega Manipur Society, which overseas the management of the school Yumnam Rupachandra said. A school in Assam takes plastic bottles from students instead of school fees. This is innovative way of taking plastic from polluting the residential areas. In similar way, he urged the students of Mega Manipur School through its Eco clubs to bring plastic bottles, used books and clothing so that same may be reused to reduce our personal carbon footprint on this planet.
Chairman of the Mega Manipur School, T. Sanajaoba Singh who attended the function also appreciated the Directorate of Environment and Climate change for partnering with Mega Manipur School. Mega Manipur School Principal Aton Lungar, who presided the function, urged the students to turn into action all that experts had told them. That he said was the value of today’s program.
