Media should focus on illegal immigration and investigate the causes of violence seriously - CM Biren

IT News
Imphal, May 12:

Chief Minister N Biren Singh has urged the media to focus on the illegal migration issue and the causes of violence, instead of focusing on those who are deviating from the real issues. In a press conference held today, CM N. Biren Singh stated, “Since the beginning of the violence, thousands and thousands have been displaced. Some of those for whom detailed reports have been collected have not accepted the money.”
He asked, “Why aren’t they taking the money? They should take it and build their houses if their area falls under places where the situation is under control and there is no violence. Those who have taken half of the money have not yet built their houses. If they are facing issues in building houses, the government can hire some agency or engage local youth clubs to build their homes. Those who have grievances, for instance, if the money has not been released, should call us at the CM’s office.”
For those IDPs whose original residences are from places where there is no security now, he assured that the government has been working out different provisions. There would be construction of single houses, approximately 100-200 houses will be built, considering the need for the privacy of the families, he stated. CM also informed that “instead of selling the products they make on the road; the government will provide provisions to sell these products. They should contact us to sell them to the government wholesale.”
Talking about the committee constituted last year to look into the migration issue, CM Biren says after a sitting of the cabinet, “Letpao Haokip and Nemcha Kipgen are part of the meeting and a cabinet subcommittee was constituted, led by Letpao Haokip, to check the demographic imbalance. We are not against anybody; we are against illegal immigrants,” CM says. In the press conference, he also reported that the subcommittee found out that 2480 individuals. 5457 more individuals have been entered now in the government records. “Now, due to the violence, more investigations cannot be carried out.”
He said, “on the other hand, there are also people sitting in Geneva and in the US who are talking without understanding what is going on. They are unable to say anything even if there are discussions about selling Manipur. They have taken money so they have to remain quiet. These people belong to NGOs.” This is not about politics, it is about the Manipuri people, he stated.
Urging the media to take up this issue of migration seriously, he said instead of deviating from the real causes of the matter, the media should raise the question of why the violence started in the first place. Responding to the memes and trolls circulating on social media, CM Biren said that “this is a serious issue. This is no joke. The ongoing war between Israel and Hamas, the war in Ukraine, what is happening at the border, nobody is joking about it. It is only in Manipur that we are making a mockery out of the situation.”
