Women of Khwairamband Market today demanded the removal of Security Advisor Kuldiep Singh and DGP.
Speaking to media persons today, the women expressed grave concerns over recent attacks by insurgent groups following the announcement of election results. The women, visibly distraught, condemned the government’s silence on the escalating violence.
“Churachandpur and Moreh are in flames now,” lamented one of the speakers, highlighting the severity of the situation. “Jiribam remained untouched until the recent tragic killing of a Meitei person. Now, houses are being burnt down.”
Amidst the chaos, the women made a direct plea to the Indian government: “If the government won’t act, give us weapons and authority; we can resolve this in 10 days. Our children are out there, doing the job of state forces without pay, while they face investigation and arrests by agencies like the NIA.”
Criticism was also directed towards the Kuki MLAs, with demands for their disqualification due to alleged inaction. “Other MLAs sit comfortably in their quarters, speaking without action,” they asserted.
Demanding immediate intervention, the women called for MLAs and ministers to visit Jiribam alongside the Joint Coordinating Committee to assess the situation firsthand and devise necessary measures.
They also criticized the non-local leadership of the Unified Command and the DGP, claiming they are out of touch with Manipur’s reality. “Transfer them within a week, or face our agitation,” they warned.
Highlighting the role of the Assam Rifles, one Ima emphasized, “The silence of MPs and the Prime Minister is deafening, despite the year-long turmoil. If they won’t act, they should step down.”
