MACHA LEIMA’s patriotic musical event suspended

Imphal, April 2:

In light of the ongoing conflict in Manipur, the Manipur Chanura Leisem Marup (MACHA LEIMA) has taken a decision to suspend the annual patriotic musical event, which has been a calendar fixture since 1991, coinciding with Meitei’s New Year Day, Sajibu Nongma Panba Cheiraoba. This decision underscores the gravity of the situation and the organization’s commitment to prioritizing peace and stability in the region.
MACHA LEIMA, known for its cultural contributions and efforts to promote unity and harmony, has traditionally used this event as an opportunity to celebrate patriotism through music and song. However, recognizing the current turmoil and the need for sensitivity to the prevailing circumstances, the organization has chosen to forego this year’s celebration.
In a statement issued by MACHA LEIMA, the decision to suspend the musical event reflects a deep concern for the well-being of the community and a desire to avoid any potential exacerbation of tensions amidst the conflict. The organization acknowledges the importance of fostering a conducive environment for dialogue, reconciliation, and healing, and believes that suspending the event is a responsible course of action in the current circumstances.
