Lamyanba Irawat Memorial Integrated Trust (LIMIT) in Manipur has strongly condemned the state and central government’s focus on preparing for the upcoming Lok Sabha election while Manipur is facing a crisis. In a released statement signed by Malem Thongam, President of LIMIT, it has expressed concern and pointed out that “the actions of the authorities indicate a lack of genuine concern for the well-being of Manipur, which is currently grappling with unrest.”
The statement from LIMIT refers to the promises made by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the last state assembly election. PM Modi had assured the people of Manipur at public meetings in Lanjing and Bhagyachandra Open Air Theatre that he would address and resolve the longstanding issues of Manipur within 15 months, which remained unresolved for the past 15 years. LIMIT perceives PM Modi’s intentions behind this statement as potentially detrimental to the Meitei community.
LIMIT condemns the government’s inaction, blaming it for prolonging the conflict in the region for nine months. The trust demands that by February 15, the state government should invite the Prime Minister to Manipur for addressing the ongoing issues. Failing to do so, the statement warns that “LIMIT volunteers, along with the people of Manipur, plan to leave Imphal for Delhi on February 16 to carry forward a movement in the national capital, seeking a resolution to the ongoing conflict.”
The statement issued by LIMIT also calls for support from the Meitei community residing in various parts of India in case such a situation arises. The trust emphasizes the urgency of addressing the issues in Manipur and calls for a united effort to ensure the well-being and resolution of the violent conflict within the state.
