Imphal, June 30:

Large number of people from various parts of the state today gathered in front of Chief Minister Bungalow between Raj Bhavan and Sanjenthong since early hour today to block roads of the Chief Minister N. Biren as he was meeting the governor of Manipur to tender his resignation from the post of Chief Minister.
As per source, N. Biren Singh was supposed to meet the Governor of Manipur at 1 pm. As the news spread like fire thousands of people from across the state gathered in front of the Chief Minister’s bungalow demanding to withdraw the stand for tendering resignation from the post of Chief Minister.
This is perhaps the second time that such a large number of people gathered in front of the Chief Minister’s Bungalow. In the 2001 June uprising, similar number of people gathered in front of the Chief Minister’s Bungalow.
As per report, some Ministers including Leishangthem Suchindro, K. Govindas, and other MLAs urged N. Biren Singh to change his mind for resignation as the people of the state are standing against it. Later a report said that the Chief Minister finally prepared his mind to tender resignation to the governor besides the intervention of his cabinet colleague and MLAs. However, as he was set to leave his bungalow the large number of people stopped him and demanded him to change his mind. Security force took him inside the bungalow before he step in to his vehicle as a large number of people shouted slogan against his decision for resignation.
The drama happened at the northern gate of the CM Bungalow (near Sanjenthong Bridge). At around 2.40 pm Minister L. Suchindro, K. Govindas, Sapam Ranjan, MLA S. Keba, MLA RK Imo etc. came out at the gate and tried to console the gathering crowd. As the crowd insisted, Minister L. Suchindro took out the resignation paper prepared by the chief minister and read it out to the public stating that even the Ministers and the MLAs are telling him to withdraw his stand. Later the Meira Paibi snatched the resignation paper and tear it into pieces.
Later the crowd shouted slogans hailing Chief Minister N. Biren Singh and his cabinet colleague for listening to the people.
Talking to the gathering crowd, Susindro appealed to the people to work together for the restoration of peace and normalcy in the state.
