Language is a part of literature heritage of Manipur – Gaikhangam

Language and dialect is a part of literature heritage of Manipur and development of language will definitely strengthen the official language. This was stated by Deputy Chief Minister Shri Gaikhangam while speaking as Chief Guest in the First Tribal Language Day-cum-Workshop on Literary Progress of Tribal Language which was held at Tribal Research Institute today.
Deputy Chief Minister further said that under Education department, Language Planning & Implementation Directorate has been established to nourish the languages of Manipur. Literature is very important and having a separate Language Directorate is a good beginning for improving the language. Govt. has determination to develop all languages of Manipur. This workshop will be a turning point to bring about development of Tribal Languages he asserted.
Shri Ragongning Gangmei, Chairman, Council of Tribal Language & Literature Societies, Manipur in his keynote address point out that language is the best means of identity and through unity of indigenous languages will bring a new social order in Manipur.
As part of the workshop a brief interaction on issues of tribal languages in Manipur and the process of approval of tribal languages for introduction in education system was also held. Various Tribal Literature Societies has reported Information on Literary Progress of their languages respectively.
The workshop was graced by Director, Language Planning & Implementation, Manipur Shri Kh. Raghumani Singh, IAS and Joint Director, Language Planning & Implementation, Manipur Dr. L. Mahabir Singh as President and Special Guest respectively. The workshop was organized by Council of Tribal Languages & Literature Societies, Manipur and sponsored by the Tribal Research Institute, Imphal.
