KSA calls for resignation of MAHUD Minister and Commissioner over recruitment scandal

Imphal, May 23:

Kangleipak Students’ Association (KSA) has called for the resignation of the Minister and Commissioner of the Municipal Administration, Housing & Urban Development (MAHUD) on moral grounds. The call for resignation stems from allegations of malpractice in the recruitment process within the Town Planning Department under MAHUD.
In a press conference, Sanjoy Khullakpam, General Secretary of KSA, highlighted the controversial recruitment of Assistant Town Planner and Assistant Architect positions, accusing the department of bypassing standard procedures. “The KSA has submitted a memorandum to the Chief Secretary on May 7, demanding the cancellation of this recruitment process. However, no action has been taken so far,” he stated.
According to KSA, the Manipur Public Service Commission (MPSC) should have been responsible for recruiting these positions. However, citing the absence of an MPSC Chairman at the time, the department proceeded with the recruitment solely through interviews, without conducting the usual written tests.
The KSA further alleges nepotism and favoritism in the recruitment process, pointing to the hiring of the son of Nepram Geet Chandra, who was the Chief Town Planner at the time and is currently overseeing the AMRUT Scheme. “This reeks of nepotism and favoritism,” he asserted.
