Journalist Wangkhemcha Dhamen picked up for allegedly spreading false information

Wangkhemcha Dhamen, a journalist, has been reportedly picked up by state police on allegations of disseminating false information through social media handles (Youtube Channel) Khonthang News. The incident stems from a viral piece of news yesterday suggesting that the Election Commission of India had suspended the website of the Chief Minister’s office. This news was reported by several media outlets. W. Dhamen is likely to be produced before the Chief Judicial Magistrate in Imphal West, further details are awaited.
Wangkhemcha Dhamen is the son of the renowned journalist Wangkhemcha Shamjai, who was arrested last year under different circumstances. Wangkhemcha Shamjai, the editor of the newspaper Kangleipakki Meira, also former president of AMWJU was detained by Manipur Police on charges of allegedly promoting enmity between communities in the state.
