Is Manipur not a State in India? –Rahul Gandhi

Imphal, July 1:

In a heated Lok Sabha session, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi launched a scathing attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the ruling BJP, accusing them of neglecting Manipur amid escalating ethnic violence. He claimed that the government’s policies have pushed the state towards civil war and blamed them for the ongoing turmoil.
“Manipur has been pushed into civil war. By your policy and program, Manipur is burning. PM has not visited Manipur. It seems like Manipur is not a state of India. There is a civil war going on there, but there is no attention from PM. We put pressure, he did not do anything. The government has no answer because Manipur does not exist in India for PM and HM,” Gandhi stated on the parliament floor.
Rahul Gandhi recounted his visit to Manipur, sharing the harrowing experiences of the residents. “I have met both Kuki and Meitei communities. One woman told me that her child was shot in front of her eyes. She said she wanted to die there and showed me the photo. This is the result of your policy,” he narrated.
He also reminded the parliament of historical instances where states have been taken from the people, referencing the 2019 reorganization of Jammu and Kashmir into two union territories.
