Imphal, June 30:
Kshetrimayum Shanta, a leader of the Communist Party of India (CPI) and Convenor of India Bloc Manipur, has raised serious questions regarding Chief Minister N. Biren Singh’s influence over Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) and student bodies in Manipur.
Shanta alleged, “CM is spreading falsehoods and there is serious mismanagement of the state.” He also claimed, “CM’s exclusion from recent meetings with top bureaucrats and military officials, including Amit Shah, indicates his diminishing influence due to misinformation spread among the public.” Shanta also referenced a past resignation drama.
He revealed, “All political parties, including the BJP, should meet with central leaders as demanded by us. However, the CM seems intent on meeting the PM only with MLAs aligned with him, indicating a reluctance to engage with central leaders.”
Moreover, Shanta raised suspicions about whether the CM is exerting control over CSOs and student organizations in the state.
Shotin Kumar, another CPI leader, echoed Shanta’s concerns, emphasizing the neglect of Manipur’s issues in national discourse, particularly during the recent Lok Sabha elections. Kumar criticized the Prime Minister’s silence on Manipur’s concerns and described the elections as a setback for the ruling BJP and its allies in the NDA.
“The current regime’s disregard for Manipur led to its defeat in the elections,” he asserted, urging for a political solution and dialogue to effectively address Manipur’s grievances. Kumar also criticized the absence of mention of Manipur in the recent presidential address.
