Incessant rains cause flooding in Thoubal district, breach river banks

Imphal, Aug 20:

Incessant rains over the past few days have led to severe flooding in Thoubal district, breaching the banks of multiple rivers and inundating several areas. The flooding has affected numerous homes, agricultural fields, and fish farms across the district.
Last night, the Wangjing River overflowed in areas such as Lamding, Sangaiyumpham, and Tentha, submerging several houses. In some locations, riverbanks gave way, prompting residents to attempt makeshift repairs using trucks and JCBs. Despite these efforts, the continuous rainfall has caused widespread concern and panic among the local population.
The situation is similarly dire in Kairembikhok, where the Nongdambi River has overflowed, flooding homes, farms, and roads in Kairembikhok Mamang Leikai and Awang Leikai.
Additionally, a landslide at Tekcham Maning Ching has blocked the water flow between Loushipat and Kharungpat, exacerbating the flooding. Local residents have been working to clear the blockage with JCBs, but many fields, fish farms, and houses remain submerged under floodwaters.
The ongoing rains have left the district on high alert, with residents anxiously monitoring the situation as water levels continue to rise.
