Imphal, June 17:

Leaders and representatives gathered at Pisumthong Hao Ground, C.R.Y.D.A. Chinga Mathak Community Hall today under the banner of Imagi Meira to discuss critical issues affecting Manipur’s stability and governance.
A unanimous request was made for a judicial inquiry by the High Court of Manipur into recent incidents at Jiribam, emphasizing the need for transparency and accountability. There was also an urgent demand to clarify the applicability of Article 355 in Manipur. Leaders stressed that if Article 355 is not applicable, the State Government should formally request its removal by the central government to streamline governance and legal clarity within the state.
Participants called for the Manipur State Government to take control of the Unified Command structure to ensure robust security arrangements under the State Home Department, preempting community and ethnic conflicts and alleviating external pressures. Despite the absence of 10 Kuki MLAs in the government, the meeting resolved that the remaining 45 MLAs should collaborate effectively and formally communicate with the Government of India’s Home Ministry to expedite the resolution of ongoing conflicts and promote inclusive governance.
The meeting also pressed for a thorough investigation into alleged connections between Assam Rifles and Kuki militants involved in recent violent incidents. Leaders urged the State Government to inform the Home Ministry of India and advocated for the withdrawal of Assam Rifles from Manipur, citing concerns over their operational conduct.
Addressing humanitarian concerns, participants advocated for the formulation of a comprehensive relief and rehabilitation package for Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) to provide immediate aid and facilitate long-term recovery for those displaced due to conflict and violence. Lastly, an appeal was directed towards newly elected Lok Sabha MPs and their respective political parties to prioritize the resolution of conflicts affecting Manipur and to raise these critical issues in the upcoming session of the Lok Sabha.
The unity meeting concluded with a strong call for prompt government action and collaborative efforts to address the multifaceted challenges confronting Manipur.
