Imphal, June 9:

Imagi Meira, along with the Delhi Meetei Coordinating Committee, Apunba Manipur Kanba Lup, and the Khwairamband Ima Keithel Joint Coordinating Committee for Peace, held a press conference at the Manipur Press Club. During the conference, Imagi Meira convenor Thokchom Sujata stressed the urgent need for the resolution of the ongoing troubles in Jiribam within 15 days.
She has accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of turning a blind eye to the situation, stating, “BJP is pretending not to see what is happening.” She highlighted the neglect from the Centre, alleging that it is favoring the Kuki community.
She criticized the absence of action from Manipur’s Governor, Chief Minister, and BJP party president during the crisis, suggesting that their focus on party matters and positions overshadowed the state’s issues. “The prolonged violence in Jiribam has persisted for over a year but our leaders have failed to secure a meeting with the Prime Minister to address the matter. However, they are in Delhi to celebrate Modi’s swearing-in ceremony in Delhi,” Sujata added.
Lourembam Nganbi, President of Apunba Manipur Kanba Lup (AMKIL), has emphasized the gravity of the situation, stating the expulsions of Meiteis from areas like Churachandpur and Moreh is due to the government’s failure to provide security. She highlighted instances of violence perpetrated against Meiteis by Kuki assailants, with little to no intervention from security forces.
