In a major crackdown on illegal poppy cultivation in Manipur, a successful joint operation by central and state forces has resulted in the destruction of 42 acres of poppy plantations across Kangpokpi and Ukhrul districts. Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh has commended the dedicated efforts of the team involved in this significant operation.
The operation carried out on December 14 and 15, specifically targeted poppy plantations located in Makui and Langka villages of Kangpokpi district, as well as along the Sihai hill range in Ukhrul district. A well-coordinated effort involving the CRPF, Assam Rifles, Kangpokpi Police, Forest officials, and the SDC T. Waichong led to the successful eradication of these illegal plantations.
Chief Minister Nongthombam Biren Singh expressed his appreciation for the team’s commitment through a tweet, where he recognized the contributions of each participant, including the CRPF, Assam Rifles, local police, and Forest officials. He emphasized the crucial role of such collaborative endeavors in promoting the welfare of the community and upholding the rule of law.
