Horticulture team led by District Officer distributes organic fertilizers at Kamjong

A One-day awareness & Training Programme on “Pest and Disease Management of Fruit Crops and Environmental Impacts of Poppy Cultivation” was conducted at Phungyar Bazar Community Hall, Kamjong yesterday by an expert team of Horticulture led by District Officer Kh. Manorama, Officer-in-charge Plant Health Clinic, Sanjenthong, Dr. Roshan Dangmei, and CNJS Arangba Mangang, Agriculture Officer.
The awareness and training programme was jointly organized by District Office Horticulture & Soil Conservation, Kamjong & Phungyar Town People Organisation (PTPO), Phungyar.
According to the District Officer, the expert team was conducting the programme after receiving reports of pest on horticulture crops like oranges, yield-decline, among others in the area. She further sought cooperation of the villagers and to inform the department regarding any horticulture related problems in their areas.
During the training programme, the farmers highlighted their grievances to the expert team who offered solutions. A farmer expressed his gratitude to the department for conducting the programme in their village and at the same time appealed to the expert team to conduct soil test in the area and to identify suitable crops according to soil suitability.
The team also distributed organic Organic fertilizers and Organic pesticides like Bone Meal, Neemkhali, Metarrhizium Trichoderma, Beauveria, Plant growth regulator etc. and tools including water pumpset and sprinkler irrigation systems.
