Global Iodine Deficiency Disorder Prevention Day observed

Global Iodine Deficiency Disorder Prevention Day was observed today at DIPR Auditorium, Nityaipat Chuthek, Imphal. The programme was organised by the Directorate of Health Services Manipur and State Health Society, NHM, Manipur.
Speaking as the Chief Guest at the function, Health & Family Welfare and IPR Minister Dr. Sapam Ranjan said Global Iodine Deficiency Day is dedicated to raise awareness about the critical role of iodine in one’s health. Though iodine is needed in meagre quantity, its importance is very large, he added.
He said the condition of the state is in a sad situation as many people go outside the state for medical treatment. The deficiency of iodine is permanent and incurable, so we must try to prevent it and preventive measures should be taken up in time. He appealed to the State Nodal Officers to coordinate with the Food Safety Department and various other line departments while conducting such an awareness programme. He also said that the officials should take a keen interest in their efforts to prevent iodine deficiency disorder.
Speaking at the function, Commissioner, Health and Family Welfare, Pradeep Kumar Jha said conducting such a programme will give awareness to the general public about the importance of iodine.
The programme was attended by the Director of Health & Family, Welfare Dr Khoirom Sashee Kumar Mangang and State Mission Director, NHM, Dr. Somorjit Ningombam as Guests of Honour. Officials and staff of Health Department, Manipur and others also attended the programme.
