Four days state agricultural fare kick off

Imphal, May 2: Four days state agricultural fare organised by the department of agriculture began today at Iboyaima Sumang Lila Shanglen, Palace Compound, Imphal-East.
Speaking at the inaugural function, V Hangkhanlian, Agriculture and Veterinary Minister expressed the needs for joint effort by the expert and the farmers to increase the agricultural products in the state.
Though the 75% of the state population are farmers, the agricultural products are low.
The farmer cannot meet the annual 11 metric ton of rice requirement of the state, he added.
The Minister also said that the decreasing size of the agricultural land due to construction of buildings and factories causes big threats to the farmers and agriculture department.
The Minister calls for practice of scientific and mechanise farming in such situation.
Trainings and awareness workshop will also be set up by the agriculture department, he added.
Jason A Shimray, Commissioner of Agriculture said that an agricultural policy will be introduce in the state.
Jason A Shimray also said that the policy which will be in light with the Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of increasing farmers earning at double fault will include the interest of the farmer’s insurance policy of the seeds and developing its infrastructure, etc.
Dr N Premjit, Vice Chancellor of Central Agricultural University (CAU), O Nabakishore, Chief Secretary of Government of Manipur and farmers from all across the state attended the opening function of the four days state agricultural fare.
So far 40 stalls have been set up in the fare.
