Imphal, March 9:
The President of the Federation of Civil Society Organisation (FOCS) Manipur, Th. Manihar, has resigned from his position, taking moral responsibility for a statement he made in anger during yesterday’s Peace Rally (Shantigi Paojel Puba Khongchat). The rally, which started from Imphal and proceeded toward Senapati, was meant to promote peace and unity. However, a social media post went viral, alleging that Manipur belongs only to the Meitei and Naga communities.
Th. Manihar clarified that his words were spoken out of frustration due to security forces blocking the rally at a crucial moment. He further explained that he did not intend to exclude any particular community or create misunderstandings, especially with the Meitei-Pangal community. However, as his statement has caused confusion and unrest in some sections of society, he has decided to step down as FOCS President.
Despite his resignation, he assured that FOCS would continue working towards peaceful coexistence among all ethnic communities and promoting lasting peace in Manipur.
